When are your intake dates?


Generally, we have intakes several times per year. However, intake dates are not absolute as it depends on the learning curve of our students. To get update and notification, please submit your interest by filling in this form.




Recommended age range for the programs


We have two separate programs for children of different age ranges. The first, Junior Adventurer Program, is for students of 6 to 9 years old. Our Young Coders Program is for students who fall between 10 and 14 years.




What if the children exceeded the age limit?


For teens aged 15-18 years old, they can join our holiday programs. You can fill up this interest form here and we will keep you updated when any suitable program is available for your child.




What will they learn?


We have 2 programs for Junior Adventurer Program (for 6-9 years old) and 4 programs for Young Coder Program (for 10-14 years old).

How long is the course for each program?


The course is a 24 lessons long, 4 lessons in a month and 2 hours for each lesson.




What is pair programming?


If they don’t have a computer, they can share their laptop two by two, pairing to complete assignments. This is a video on pair programming, have a look.




What is the requirement?


We are taking students from 6-14 years old. There’s no requirements in our class, we are welcoming everyone from different background to join our group. It’s okay for students who have no computing background or weak language skills to join our class too.





Payment

How much is the fees?


The original pricing for Program A, B, C and D will be RM350 for 4 lessons respectively. However, because of Telebort-Penang Digital Library Collaboration, we make it RM220 flat for 4 lessons for Program A, B, C, D respectively. RM 220 for 4 lessons (approx. 1 month): Lessons 1-4 = RM220 Lessons 5-8 = RM220 Lessons 9-12 = RM220 Lessons 13-16 = RM220 Lessons 17-20 = RM220 Lessons 21-24 = RM220
* We have further discount for those who: ✅ Enroll more than 1 children in the course (e.g., instead of RM220 per person, we make it RM200 per person) ✅ Make lump sum payment for 24 lessons (e.g., instead of RM220 x 6 = RM1,320, we make it RM200 x 6 = RM1,200)

Can I make full payment?


Yes, we do take full payment in advance, but we will prefer using CDM (Cash Deposit Machine)/ ATM or online internet banking to our bank account. Is there any additional fees in future?


Tuition fees alone, there will be no additional charges. However, certain programs will require hardware (eg. microbit), which is separate from the tuition fees. Costs for hardware will NOT be included in the tuition fees and has to be paid at your own expense. We may also organise events (eg. short trips) which will also be at your own expense. Otherwise, there will be no additional charges.




Late payment?


Late payment is not encouraged, we might stop the course for 1 month outstanding payment. But don’t worry, we will send reminder every month for the collection of payment.




Is there any refund?


Sorry, there will be no refund for the course fees. For absentees, we will provide online replacement classes.





Class Management

What need to bring to class?


Not much to prepare :) Just Bring: 1. Stationery (Pencil, Pen, etc) 2. Water to drink 3. Jacket (in case feeling cold inside PDL) 4. Laptop (if you do not have laptop, we will be doing pair programming)




What to do if absent ?


We will have online replacement class, so that the absentees can learn the lessons and make the project at home whenever they are free. To ensure the students are on track, they are required to complete the online replacement lesson before coming to our subsequent lesson.




How do you run your classes?


Generally, students will be coming to Penang Digital Library either Saturday or Sunday to learn with us. The class is 2 hours per time for approximately 4 months of 24 lessons module. We are estimating: 1st Month = Lesson 1 to 4 2nd Month = Lesson 5 to 8 3rd Month = Lesson 9 to 12 4th Month = Lesson 13 to 16 5th Month = Lesson 17 to 20 6th Month = Lesson 21 to 24 During the program, students will be working on new and challenging sample projects, answering quiz and assessment, and work on their own projects. In addition, group discussion, presentation, and relevant activity will be conducted in between the sections to ensure a more lively and interactive classroom. By the end of the program, students will be awarded a certificate of completion and academic transcript.




Class size?


Minimum of 10 students and maximum of 32 students in a class.

We accept students from 6-14 years old from different school such as local schools and international schools.





Core Programs

What is the objective of the program?


Our objective is to empower youngster in Penang to be designers or creators of technology through STEAM-based learning (i.e., Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). Specifically, we focus on teaching them computer science, ranging from Program A: Foundation of Creative Computing, Program B: Mobile Apps Development, Program C: Web Design (HTML & CSS), and Program D: Interactive Web Design (JavaScript).




How do you run this program?


Generally, students will be coming to Penang Digital Library either Saturday or Sunday to learn with us. The class lasts for 2 hours per session. Each program consists of 24 modules, approximately half a year. We are estimating: 1st Month = Lesson 1 to 4 2nd Month = Lesson 5 to 8 3rd Month = Lesson 9 to 12 4th Month = Lesson 13 to 16 5th Month = Lesson 17 to 20 6th Month = Lesson 21 to 24 During the program, students will be working on new and challenging sample projects, answering quiz and assessment, and work on their own projects. In addition, group discussion, presentation, and relevant activity will be conducted in between the sections to ensure a more lively and interactive classroom. At the end of the program, students will be awarded a certificate upon completing together with academic transcript.

Who should join the program?


In the 21st century, information technology is vital in our daily life. Many jobs done by humans in the past are gradually replaced by technology. We strongly encourage every child from the age group 6-9 years old to participate the Junior Adventurer Program and 10-14 years old to participate the Young Coder Program.

Where are the classes?


The core program is held at the Penang Digital Library. For the holiday program, we will update parents when the date is nearer.




“What is Program A?”, “What will the child learn from Program A”


Learning the basic programming concepts is easy but mastering them with creativity need more training and guidance. Essentially, students will be able to apply programming concepts, build projects, and begin the journey of coding discovery. They will be able to create, innovate, and explore their own ideas around technology. What will you learn Program A is exclusively designed for students to master key concepts of computer science and programmings such as event, sequences, loops, conditionals, operators, variables, list, function, and many more via different block-based programming platforms. “What is Program B?”, “What will the child learn from Program B”


It is a web application originally provided by Google. It allows creating software applications for the Android operating system (OS). It allows you to develop applications for Android phones using a web browser or a connected phone or emulator. Then, students will be able to build their own apps in Android mobile phone What will you learn Essentially, students will learn key components of mobile development such as text sensing, information processing through list and indexing, data generation, Web Application Program Interface (API), and more. “What is Program C?”, “What will the child learn from Program C”


In Program C, students will be coding using HTML and CSS to build headings, lists, content and changing the colour, font, layout, and more. With students’ creativity and ideas will bring life to every screen and make the design unique. What will you learn Students will not be using block-based programming in Program C. Instead, they will be learning different text-based languages to design web pages, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The main focus in Program C is HTML and CSS, while basic introduction to JavaScript will be carried out to serve as an initial preparation for Program D. By the end of this program, students will be able to build their own web pages, helping them to put their thoughts and express their creativity in web design. “What is Program D?”, “What will the child learn from Program D”


In Program D, students will be exposed to Javascript, the most popular programming language in front-end web development. Javascript is essential to provide logic to web pages, making them interactive and attractive. What will you learn Students will learn interactive web design using Javascript programming syntax and Document Object Model (DOM) to manipulate HTML elements. By the end of this program, students will be able to produce audio, graphic, and animation using cutting-edge JS libraries. For more information about Program D, click here




When is the free trial program?


The free trial program usually is held on the last Saturday of the month, from 10am to 12pm. Let us know in advance if you are interested because the slots are limited.




“What is Program E?”, “What will the child learn from Program E”


In Program E, it has been developed to introduce students about the Back-end Web Development where the students will learn about server, application, and database. The students will be exposed to Node.js where it is an open source server environment to allow JavaScript to run on the server. What will you learn Students will be exposed to Application Programming Interface (API) and learn how to utilize API in web development. Ultimately, the students will be able to complete the final project by combining the Front-end (where they have learned in Programs C & D) and Back-end architecture.
